| The Minnesota Hosta Society, MHS, is a non-profit educational society established in 1991 to promote knowledge of, and interest in the shade loving landscape plant, hosta. We have educational meetings throughout the year, offer many activities for members, and participate in several community events in the Twin Cities area.
Currently, over 350 people from across the state are members of the society. Our members range from beginning gardeners just becoming acquainted with hostas to experienced growers and hybridizers.
Benefits of membership in the MHS include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Three educational meetings with both local and nationally recognized speakers.
- The Hostaphile, a MHS published newsletter four times per year, with members sharing gardening, growing tips and ideas, propagation techniques, and general shade gardening information.
- Member pricing on Atlas garden gloves.
- Occasional sale of society and garden items.
- A plant of the year offer.
- A spring plant auction and sale.
- A summer potluck and plant auction.
- Summer garden tours of fabulous local gardens.
- A holiday social and dinner celebration and white elephant gift exchange. A registration fee is associated with this event.
Other activities include sponsorship of a Hosta Leaf Show open for pubic viewing, and participation in both the MN Landscape Arboretum Plant Fair and Minneapolis Blooms Day where our society staffs an information booth. Dues are $20 for
2 years. Gift memberships are available.
