Pat Carlson Garden

The Carlson house in Baycliffe was built in 1973. Pat has always been an avid gardener. The maze garden plan she wanted was designed by Roger Lillemo. Over the years gardens grew like Topsy as more sun arrived with the death of a huge elm in the back garden. A long east side bed was primarily shade plants including hosta. A dry riverbed designed by Lillemo to take roof water around the house became a home for hostas and ferns. The front of the house was left wild, with lots of Wildflowers, until Hideko Gowen suggested otherwise. Heliotrope Gardens designed the area with a large variety of shade plants and hosta. After the terrible on-line windstorms of 2005, Pat felt the need to shore up the driveway. A large boulder wall was built providing access to the deep gully behind the house, and guess what… another hosta and shade garden, complete with pond and waterfall and a patio transpired.

Please enjoy your visit. The gardens are currently maintained by two gardeners, Howard Schmidt and his granddaughter Wendy Oelschlager.
